Supporting youth with disabilities in employment

As an employment service provider, you play a crucial role in supporting youth with disabilities. You’re doing great work, and we’ve developed tools and resources to help. Whether it’s enhancing programs you already have with new content or connecting youth to the CanWork BC youth tool, our online self-paced tool, these resources are free and available online.

CanWork BC youth resource for service providers

The CanWork BC youth tool is an online self-paced platform designed for youth with disabilities aged 15 to 30 to explore either on their own or with support. It’s an engaging, interactive learning experience across five key areas called dimensions. The tool is designed to be flexible, accessible, and self-paced, helping youth develop practical skills, discover their strengths, and support their personal growth.

Learn the practical skills needed for job searching, applying, and succeeding at work. From resume writing to interview preparation, this dimension equips you with the tools to confidently explore the world of work.

Explore your career ambitions and learn how to pursue them. This dimension focuses on decision-making and managing change, helping you set realistic goals and adapt as you move through different employment opportunities.

Money management

Gain financial literacy skills to help you manage your income. Whether it’s budgeting, saving, or understanding paycheques, this dimension helps you develop a healthy relationship with money.

Wellness

Learn how to balance work and personal well-being. This dimension explores how maintaining good mental and physical health different strategies to support your well-being and how it contributes to long-term career success and personal growth.

You can enrol multiple learners and guide them through a tailored learning experience. You’ll have access to resources that help you support youth in their employment journey, while also tracking progress and ensuring they build skills to thrive in the workplace.

Once you enrol a youth learner in the CanWork BC youth tool, they’ll be automatically enrolled in all five dimensions of the course. They will receive an email with their login details, and from there, they can start anywhere they like and complete as much as they want, at their own pace. Learners can revisit topics to deepen their understanding and reflect on their growth.
